Kristy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and raised in New Hope, Pennsylvania and Miami, Florida with intermittent periods in Germany. She graduated from Palmetto High School in Miami, Florida.

Kristy is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan, where she is Division Chair for the Division of Health Promotion and Risk Reduction (Division II), the largest Division in the Nursing School. Click here for Kristy's web site at U of M.

Kristy has been on the faculty of the University of Florida, University of Miami, Georgia State University, and Albany (Georgia) State University. Kristy started the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at ASU, receiving a federal training grant in excess of $780,000, and consulted on a continuation grant of $400,000.   She's a certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

She has a Ph.D. in Nursing Science from the University of Florida (1998).  Her dissertation is entitled "Low-Income African American Adolescents: Tough Girls Who Rewrite Negative Scripts." Her area of research is avoidance of pregnancy by low-income African-American adolescent girls. Her expertise is in the grounded theory qualititative research method to gather data through individual interviews and focus groups.  She has recently developed an Event History Calendar, a tool which enhances history-taking and recall for patients and providers.
